In the past, I believed that social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter are only used for leisure purposes such as communicating with friends and making new friends. My personal social media profile reflects only more of a casual personality of myself. However, this module has opened me to a greater perspective of online usage and the development of a professional profile.

Specifically, Topic 3, whereby I learnt how social media platform is actually an essential tool to develop an attractive professional profile to capture the attention of potential employees. Not only have I learnt the different ways and steps to create a professional profile, I have decided to take action and to create an actual LinkedIn profile that will benefit me in the near future for job seeking purposes.

This module also changes the way I use Twitter; instead of focusing on following friends and tweeting, I realised that following related area of interest aids in learning and also understanding of the current trend in the industry, therefore, it is beneficial to keep myself updated to the current news. Before this module, I have never owned any blogs before, however this module required me to follow up and update my blog daily, I found out that keeping a blog is a good way for expressing our creativity and thoughts. It can also be utilized for job seeking.

I have also learnt to build a professional digital profile on social media whereby there is a high volume of users and one of them looking at my profile might be my potential boss. Facebook is a place to start changing the way I want others to view me as, I need to portray the professional and mature side of me, before I lose the first impression when it comes to professionalism.

Future Plans

With all that I have learnt from this module, I want to take this knowledge gained to improve my digital image as well as my online information management. I believe that one key factor to in doing these successfully in the future is to be aware of the potential ethical issues such as privacy and copyrighting, especially when I am sure that personally I will create more than one online identity for different uses.

In the future, when there is doubt, I will know where to look up for information on the web. Dealing with open access materials and paywall materials, I must give the appropriate credits to the author with proper citation to prevent copyright issues as well as to encourage the creator’s work.

Most importantly, I want to develop a professional digital profile that will attract the correct employers to hire me for the position that I expressed interest in.
