Topic 5: Reflective Summary

commonsdotsunnyAfter reading a few of my friend’s blog, I have learnt that there are pros and cons to having free online materials.Open access promotes the publisher’s work and it showcases the publisher’s creativity and ideas. These ideas will then be shared amongst other people of the same interest and in the long run, would benefit the whole community.

So, why should we hold back valuable information to ourselves when we can share and spread it so that it can benefit as many people as possible? However, after going through Eugene‘s blog, I realized that having a total open access might just discourage publishers in the long run, since they are the ones who are covering the costs to share their work online. Jeremiah‘s blog explained how open access can be implemented to certain sectors such as healthcare and education while a paywall should be implemented on areas such as entertainment, which I feel, is a good solution to the dilemma.
